* Grade 1: First Grade Curriculum Performance - Develop focus, voice and body control through theatre games and imaginative play. Create a performance piece emphasizing team work. Focus on memorization, vocal projection and comfortably speaking in front of people. Each student is featured in the play, which is created from their own ideas.
* Grade 2: Readers Theatre/Radio Plays – These theatre methods free the performers from the physical limitations of conventional theatre and let the imagination soar. They help develop reading skills and challenge students to visualize and enact many different kinds of stories with the security of the script in hand. Students learn the methods of turning any story into readers theatre or a radio play and eventually create their own pieces in smaller groups.
* Grade 3: Theatre Around the World Performance – Students learn about unique theatre customs from other parts of the world such as kabuki, mime etc. We incorporate current curriculum and world music culminating in a vibrant performance.
* Grade 5: Play Creation/Improvisation/Shakespeare - Students learn different types of theatre to put together a short piece depicting their ‘Nature’s Classroom’ experiences. They continue to work on improvisational theatre and begin in-depth study into Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Nights Dream” to be showcased in conjunction with their Utopia/Distopia unit.
* Grade 6: History Day and The Musical - Mentor theatre students in creating competitive history day performances from their research papers. Immerse students in several different forms of theatre (sound-scapes, mime, improvisation, monologuing, tableau etc) to develop skills used to be used in creation of the 6th grade musical based on the NHD theme. Students create the world of the play as an ensemble. They are featured according to their unique talents and interests.
